this is the bay area's news station, kron 4 news at 11:00 p.m., starts now. >> they swept the tigers and now they are soaking in the glow of victory. the san francisco giants arrived today and as kron 4's dan kerman tells us, he was there at at&t park. >> the buses carrying the san francisco giants returned to a cheering crowd outside at&t park. 4:40 p.m. monday afternoon. many of the players and their families were glad to be back in town and overwhelmed with what the team accomplished.
>> humbling. i can't believe it. grateful to be a part of it. >> reporter: world series mvp pablo sandoval grabbed the world series trophy and walked it up for the fans to see and then passed it to sergio romo who capped the series by striking out the last three batters. >> unreal. unreal. the city definitely derves this, the team -- deserves this, the team. what a ride. what a way to reward everybody. >> reporter: this is the weekend world series trophy for the giants in three years. and manager bruce bochy says this is extra sweet. >> with our backs against the wall, makes this more special. it is amazing, historic and eventually they will sit back this winter and realize what they accomplished. >> reporter: if you didn't come
down to the park, you will get another opportunity during the world series parade on wednesday. at at&t park, dan kerman, kron 4 news. >> dan is right, a victory celeration is on the way, san francisco will honor the giants by hosting a parade on wednesday. the mayor spoke today and as kron 4's terisa estacio reports, crews are getting everything ready for the big event. >> reporter: look at what is going on down here. dozens of crews started monday morning setting up for the parade on wednesday. there is a lot of to do. this is a video screen and it will be hung. the screen will broadcast the players' speechers to the fans gathered at -- speeches to the
fans gathered at the plaza. several bands will be performing and this is a mountain of speakers that will be hung for everyone to hear and talking about the parade monday the mayor promised it will be grand. >> i think we ha well organized approach to this. we are creating a family, friendly event for everybody. we will pay attention to everybody's safety. i think it is deserving of a million people coming to a parade and celebrating the people, people, the team members and the whole organization. >> reporter: kron 4 news. >> we have a map to show you the parade route. starts near the ferry building, stuart is market street, and down -- stuart and market street, and down the street, and ends at civic center plaza. the giants will take the stage for a wild celebration with all
the giants fans. grant lodes, kron 4 news. now to the latest on tropical storm sandy. superstorm sandy slammed into the east coast and done so hard. 13-foot surge of water into new york city and left a construction crane dangling off of a 74 story building. it is dumping rain and snow on most of the east coast with more than 5 million people without power. the storm is also blamed for 13 deaths. states of emergency declared for multiple states and officials suspended trading on wall street, closed subways in new york and shut down airports in new york, new jersey and connecticut. bay area red cross and the national guard have already been sent in to help as the clean up is expected to take
days and cost millions. kron 4's jacqueline bennett is tracking tropical storm sandy. >> this is a nasty storm because unlike most hurricanes they just go up the coast line and become tropical storms and go away. this merged with a powerful winter storm. you can see all the snow, the blue indicating snow, dark blue is heavy snow and a mix of rain and snow, that is the purple. you see more of the cold weather starting to fill in now. we have blizzard warnings in effect in virginia and the heavy rain over washington, d.c. at this hour. the yellow indicating heavy rain. yellow, orange and rain indicating heavy down pours and it has been falling for several hours. we will continue to see flooding. look at all the watches and warnings through multiple
states. it is a mess out there right now. rainfall totals continuing to add up as we head into midnight, 6 inches of rain in washington and we will add to that. moderate to heavy rain falling over there, over washington, d.c. at this hour and over many parts of the east coast. we will be looking at several inches of rainfall, still seeing gusty winds, we have the power outages. nasty situation for 24 more hours. >> tropical storm standee caused major damage -- sandy caused major damage, flooding. new york city and new jersey. kron 4's reggie kumar is here to show us the amazing pictures and video that residents posted. >> reporter: this is right. those two cities been hit hard by tropical storm sandy, streets, subways subways and businesses flooded out tonight.
look at this video. we received this an hour ago. infant were evacuated from new york university hospital after the electricity went out and the backup generating failed. a nurse holding a baby on her lab while paramedics loaded them up. 200 patients had to be relocated. this video is is park. a emergency responder having a difficult time driving down this flooded street. this is the boardwalk in atlantic city new jersey, flood water over took this road and rushing floodwaters poured out of this elevator in this train station in new jersey and also in this next piece right there, police cars submerged in water right there and also that is a ground zero in new york city.
you can see that there is so much water flowing in that part of the ground zero that it looks like there is water falls in that section and also taxi cabs were also flooded out in new york city. and we also have other video to show you. this is a remarkable piece of video. ground zero right there, over taken by floodwaters. >> horrendous sight. we will be seeing a lot of pictures like that. as we mentioned the airport closures long the east coast, they are cause agrypal effect, reach -- causing a ripple effect, reaching to san francisco. dozens of flights have been canceled, strapping many in the -- stranding many in the bay area. call your airline before you head to the airport to confirm your flight.

jean quan said today the city is experiencing a strong fiscal position in more than a decade. some members of the city counsel were not pleased with her for releasing that information. they felt it should have been reviewed first before it was
made public. also new tonight. over the past week agent confiscated 1200 counterfeit giants t-shirts. it was taken from vendors outside at&t park and they seized 100 hats. there have been no arrests but investigators are expecting more items to hit the street since the giants won the world series and in the lead up to the parade wednesday. >> dense fog settling into part of the bay area, i will tell you if it will effect your morning commute and the giants parade forecast coming up.

trash cans and honking their horns as well. 22 and mission the streets were full of people behaving badly. people here were also jumping up and down. and at least one not quite making it through. to prove i was there, i will give you a sign. a complete sign that became a favorite for many. for some people it was an opportunity to spray paint anything they could. the more people drank the rowdier they became and the more stuff they added to the fire, like the chair. now, some people were trying to help others like this woman trying to help a driver navigate through the crowd. 22 and mission wasn't the only place. this is 22 and valencia. taking a photo seemed to be the
normal thing. 18th and valencia as well. the reason why the san francisco police were in riot gear taking bottles from people in the crowd. police were close to using tear gas and bean bag rounds. there is no way these people could be real giants fans. they are just people who needed a reason to create mayhem. one manueled that place. -- manueled that police. -- man yelled at the police. in san francisco, stanley roberts, kron 4 news. a guilty verdict handed dune the mother who killed her high school friend michelle le. a jury found giselle esteban guilty of first degree murder today in the death of michelle le. michelle le disappeared from a hospital parking lot last year.
giselle esteban faces 25 years to life when she gets sentenced december 10. we are starting to see fog in the bay area. a live look outside from the golden gate bridge. reduced visibility here and in the north bay. a 10th of a mile of visibility. just very, very sense in santa rosa and coast line reduced visibility. a dense fog advisory for the north bay tomorrow morning. this will be in effect till 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. keep that in mind tomorrow. clear skies over the bay area right now. tail end of a system moving to the north, spreading heavy rain in oregon, northern california but it stays off shore through wednesday. tuesday morning, the rain remaining through northern california and oregon. clouds approach by wednesday at
